The method of detecting and localizing brain tumors by external measurement of radiations emitted by radioactive di-iodo-fluorescein concentrated within the tumor was originated by G. E. Moore and his group at the University of Minnesota in (3). They first reported on a group of 77 cases, including 49 verified tumors, of which 25 (51 per cent) were correctly localized. Radioactive isotopes can also be used for this type of localization. In rgSl Silverstone and White recorded a series of cases in which a small dose of radioactive isotope was given prior to surgery. At surgery the isotope was detected in the neoplastic tissue by means of a small needle-like probe containing a Geiger counter.

A radioactive isotope, also known as a radioisotope, radionuclide, or radioactive nuclide, is any of several species of the same chemical element with different masses whose nuclei are unstable and dissipate excess energy by spontaneously emitting radiation in the form of alpha, beta, and gamma rays.

Every chemical element has one or more radioactive isotopes. Radioactive Isotopes in the Localization of Tumours [V. Mc Cready et al] on *FREE* shipping on qualifying : V. Mc Cready et al. In 92 patients studied by automatic scintillation scanning of the head following intravenous injection of positron‐emitting arsenic‐74, accurate detection and localization resulted in 30 of 36 cases of proven space‐occupying cerebral lesions (83%).

Be the first. Radioactive isotopes, or radioisotopes, are species of chemical elements that are produced through the natural decay of atoms. Exposure to radiation generally is considered harmful to the human body, but radioisotopes are highly valuable in medicine, particularly in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Radiopharmacology is radiochemistry applied to medicine and thus the pharmacology of radiopharmaceuticals (medicinal radiocompounds, that is, pharmaceutical drugs that are radioactive).Radiopharmaceuticals are used in the field of nuclear medicine as radioactive tracers in medical imaging and in therapy for many diseases (for example, brachytherapy). Many ."Localization of Brain Tumors at Operation with Radioactive Phosphorus" published on Jan by Journal of Neurosurgery Publishing Group.Radioactive Isotopes in the Localization of Tumours: Symposium Proceedings: Books - at: Hardcover.
